Matcha Whisk (Chasen)
Our matcha whisk, known traditionally as a “chasen”, is made from biodegradable bamboo. Fantastic for whisking matcha to be used in a latte or enjoyed on it’s own.
The chasen is a traditional tool and is essential for preparing Matcha to get its smooth texture and its Crema. It is made from a single piece of bamboo with the end cut into several thin slivers to whisk the green tea powder into a small quantity of water. With a quick motion, the whisked tea is then fully emulsified and attains the proper texture as seen in the famous Japanese tea ceremony – the chanoyu.
How to care for your chasen:
Do not store it in its original plastic container. Because bamboo is a natural material and retains moisture, chasens can occasionally be susceptible to slight molding. No need for concern – just be sure your whisk is able to air dry. We store our whisk standing upright on its base in mild environment.
Should mold occur, place your chasen in boiling water.
In everyday use, do not wash your chasen with soap. Simply run it under hot water and remove all visible signs of matcha.
Pat your chasen dry.
